That the A-capacity G’s to deem the PM unsuitable for office is eliminated by a committee vote 2023

The Impairment Law modifies a provision of the quasi-constitutional Basic Law: Government on the circumstances under which a prime minister is judged unsuitable for office.

Monday morning, the Special Committee for Changes to Basic Law: Government voted in favor of the Impairment Bill, which will now be referred to the Knesset for its first reading.

The Impairment Law modifies a provision of the quasi-constitutional Basic Law: Government on the circumstances under which a prime minister is judged unsuitable for office.

The law specifies that the clause applies to medical and health difficulties and transfers the authority to designate the prime minister unfit for duty from the attorney general to the Knesset and its committees.

While the law was primarily intended for medical impairments, Israeli media reported in February that the Attorney-General was considering declaring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unfit for office due to his conflict of interest between his ongoing corruption trials and the ongoing judicial reform. The office of the Attorney General refuted these rumors.
