Chinese FM asks US anti-China politicians to avoid meddling in Hong Kong 2023

On Thursday, the Commissioner’s Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) voiced strong displeasure and resistance to the so-called resolution on HKSAR enacted by US MPs, which deliberately undermines the Hong Kong national security law.

The “resolution” interferes with HKSAR’s law-based government, contradicts international law and fundamental principles regulating international relations, and represents egregious meddling in China’s internal affairs, according to the Commissioner’s Office spokeswoman.

The spokesperson emphasized that China urges US politicians to engage in self-reflection, stop acting as “preachers,” and abide by the principle of international laws and basic norms governing international relations of “non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries,” and to immediately stop interfering in the affairs of the HKSAR for any reason.

The Chinese government remains steadfast in its will to protect China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests, and to execute the “one country, two systems” concept, according to a spokeswoman.

In criticizing the police in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for employing disproportionate force in response to “Black Violence,” the so-called resolution of the US Senate is full of nonsense, as it ignores the facts. The representative inquired whether they had forgotten that U.S. police are not afraid to shoot and murder individuals for minor offenses.

They allege that more than 200 people have been detained since the Hong Kong national security law went into force over three years ago. The spokesman stated, “Have you forgotten that two years ago, one day after the Capitol incident, the number of persons under custody was far higher? More than 1,000 people have been indicted.”

The spokesman stated that their call for the rapid release of Jimmy Lai Chee-ying and other criminals is a flagrant breach of the rule of law and an endorsement of mob rule.

Anti-China politicians in the United States attacked Hong Kong for lacking credibility as an international business center; however, the most recent data reveals that tourist arrivals in HKSAR in February surpassed 1 million for the first time in three years, reaching 1.46 million, demonstrating the full confidence of the Chinese people and the international community in Hong Kong’s future development.

The spokesman highlighted that they downplay their own difficulties, but raise the finger at HKSAR matters as a strategy to use Hong Kong to control China, and have developed a resolution filled with hypocrisy and intimidation.

With the adoption of the Hong Kong national security law, the rule of law and business climate have improved, and the community has grown more stable and unified, ushering in a new age of governance and prosperity, according to the spokesman. International investors have also demonstrated their trust in HKSAR’s future by their activities, to the delight of Hong Kong citizens.

The Basic Law and the Hong Kong national security law completely protect the rights and freedoms enjoyed by local citizens in line with the law, but no rights or freedoms are limitless, and no one is above the law in any capacity, according to the spokesman.

The HKSAR has upheld the law in line with the law, and the court uses its judicial authority in accordance with the law, the spokesman stated.
