Is Switzerland really a land of sex and love?

A global sex survey found that the Swiss make love 123 times a year, so they’re not bashful about it. Globally, the average is 103.

However, several experts question whether the study really depicts what is actually happening in Switzerland behind closed doors.

Durex, the manufacturer of condoms, presented the first section of the Sexual Wellbeing Global Survey earlier this week.

More than 26,000 individuals of all orientations from 26 countries were asked about their sexual experiences and behaviors in an online poll. In Switzerland, 557 respondents in total.

The Greeks topped the list of people who had the most sex, with 164. The Brazilians followed the land of Aphrodite (145).

The Japanese were the most humble people; they only took off their kimonos 48 times a year.

Switzerland performed better than its neighboring Latin-loving countries, Italy (121), and France (120), with a score of 123.

The product manager of Durex Switzerland, Miriam Abel, told Swissinfo that “this is one of the most surprising results.” “People’s perceptions of these nations and love are predetermined.”

Additionally, the United States (85) and Britain (92) were surpassed by other neighbors, Germany (117) and Switzerland (92).

strong endurance

It was discovered that the Swiss have strong endurance. The Swiss lasted one minute longer than the global average at 19 minutes.

In this regard, Nigeria emerged as the world champions after 24 minutes, whereas India’s enjoyment lasted for just 13 minutes.

Nevertheless, even with all of this positive news, 42% of Swiss respondents stated they were completely content with their romantic life, indicating that they were still unsatisfied.

The Nigerians, at 67%, were the happiest people in the league, while the elderly Japanese, at 15%, were the least happy.

Less stress and fatigue, according to around half of the Swiss questioned, would translate into greater bedroom fun. They reasoned that a little extra romance and pleasure would also be nice.

According to Durex, the low number could have been influenced by the contrast between wanting more fun and not being ready to try new things, since just 45% of respondents indicated they wished to do so.

But when “largely satisfied” were taken into account, the percentage increased to almost 72%.

Idealized persona

Regarding whether the results represented reality, experts were dubious. Clinical sex therapist Esther Elisabeth Schütz, who practices close to Zurich, speculated that the Swiss could have only wanted to have sex 123 times a year, or twice a week.

“Many couples only engage once a month, while others go months without communicating at all. Though they obviously fantasize of having sex [at least] once a week, men and women don’t actually have that much sex, the source told Swissinfo.

Schütz, however, who provided commentary on the Durex survey, saw the good news that a large number of respondents stated that their sexual welfare was crucial to their general health and, consequently, to their relationships.

There are other sex studies that have been published in Switzerland besides the Durex survey.

There are certain parallels between the Durex study and new research conducted by Bern University on about 6,500 individuals in the German-speaking region of the nation.

Swiss Active

According to Daniel Regli, a psychologist who was part in the Bern study, persons engaged in one to three sexual encounters per week according to this online survey.

He clarified that although the satisfaction rate was higher—between 88 and 90 percent of those in a partnership—it was based on a small sample.

Regli told Swissinfo, “You have younger, better educated people answering, which is one of the limitations of online research.”

He claimed that while gathering data was simple, doing a thorough scientific analysis with it was more difficult. However, an internet poll such as Durex’s might provide a useful worldwide summary.

It’s beneficial PR for Durex. Regli stated, “It’s an intriguing sample size, but a thorough study requires context.
